stormdoctor > As I ended my chase vacation this year, I was given a beautiful send-off by mother nature. As the dryline pushed into central KS, the merged anvils of a line of tornadic storms captured the sunset perfectly over this landscape near Burlington, CO, on May 29, 2008. The photo leaves me longing to be back on the Plains again, which I'll be...next year.
stormdoctor > A partial rainbow scatters the sunset light west of Colby, KS, on May 29, 2008.
stormdoctor > I've not seen too many photogenic crepuscular rays that pointed in directions at 90 degrees from each other. I was treated to this sight near Colby, KS, on May 29, 2008.

stormdoctor > This shot is pretty cool to me: I was able to shoot up an embankment just south of I-70 near Hoxie, KS, on May 29, 2008, and capture a fellow chaser silhouetted against the boiling sky of the RFD gust front. It captures the smallness of man, the largeness of the sky, and the spirit of chasing.
stormdoctor > The RFD on this cell over I-70 near Hoxie, KS, on May 29, 2008, created a very potent gust front and boiling sky. I think this image captures the size of the storm as the cars in the image appear faint and small. I love when I can capture scale to this degree.
stormdoctor > Bah--this is a "squintnado". This cell, SW of Hoxie, KS, shows I-70 on May 29, 2008. This HP cell had a visibly rain-wrapped tornado which is almost impossible to make out in the image. You may be able to see the cone tornado over the right-most "wrong way" red signpost. I only share this picture for other chasers, but I don't think it captures a tornado at its best.
stormdoctor > Near Tucamcari, NM, on May 28, 2008. A multicellular cluster with frequent rotation prompted multiple tornado warnings on this cell. Occasionally up to 3 separate TVS's were noted on radar. But as this photo shows, the behavior of the storm was more consistent with mesocyclones forming on outflow from the HP cells. New Mexico has amazing landscapes, but few roads. It was a beautiful sight to see this wall cloud and scenery.
