stormdoctor  > Weather > 2007 Chase Season!
Several tornadoes this trip with myriad exquisite stormscapes. Some of these are among the most beautiful I've ever filmed. It is hard to believe all of there happened in one season. From isolated cells forming over the Texas panhandle with explosive lightning to "the wilds" outside of Pueblo, CO, where I got to spend a night off-road in a field waiting for the muddy road to harden back up enough to get traction. One of the best years I've ever had. But also the most costly as I drove over 6,600 miles this trip!

stormdoctor > Despite its appearance, the trees in the foreground are illuminated by an electrical light, not the lightning strike. Though when I saw the photo on my camera, I thought I'd hit paydirt. As it is, I still love this CG strike. Near Tulsa, OK, June 7, 2007.
stormdoctor > This photo represents all the wonders and problems with lightning photography. Here is a perfect bolt, highly visual due to lack of low-level haze, with tons of leaders and charge. I took this in a field and saw nothing around. Powerlines interrupt the simple beauty of this photo, but I thought I'd still share. Near Tulsa, OK, June 7, 2007.
stormdoctor > Mammatus reflect the setting sun, silhouetting a crop of trees. June 6, 2007.
stormdoctor > The dryline pushed through this area near Valentine, NE, on June 6, 2007, leaving a sharply delineated anvil in its wake. With faint light left, I captured the mood by highlighting the broken fence and abandoned farm seen in the foreground. I really love this shot.
stormdoctor > Front flank of the HP supercell near Springlake, TX, on June 2, 2007. Explosive cloud-to-ground lightning arcs at the front flank/updraft interface.
stormdoctor > HIGHLY rain-wrapped tornado in the occlusion of this HP supercell due west of Springlake, TX, on June 2, 2007. Ground circulation was visible, but did not photograph well in the low-contrast conditions. Note the well-built beaver tail on the right and the wrapping shelf cloud from the RFD (which rotated around the core into the parent updraft base).
stormdoctor > Isolated supercell builds over Dimmitt, TX, on June 2, 2007. Crepuscular rays burst out around the rock hard updraft as the sharply delineated anvil shows mammatus. This was an example of a low-shear, high CAPE supercell forming in highly capped conditions. It exploded along a boundary and ended up landing at least one tornado.
stormdoctor > Electric red sunset and faint rainbow illuminated along the outflow-induced tilted updrafts in Parmer Cty, TX, on June 1, 2007.
stormdoctor > Double rainbow along the RFD of a severe storm in Parmer Cty, TX, on June 1, 2007. I will openly admit that this was Photoshopped (tm) to accent the contrasts and colors. The content has not been altered, however. But I admit the greens are a bit eye-popping, but I just couldn't find another way to get this as close to what my retina saw than this. Spectacular.
